The Allegan County Road Commission is a three member board who are appointed to six year terms elected by the county board, and by law are responsible for the operation of the Road Commission.
The Allegan County Road Commission is responsible for a total of about 1,800 miles of roadway located within 24 townships. Allegan County certifies the fifth most total road miles amongst Michigan Counties. The breakdown is as follows: Of the total of 522 miles of primary roadway - 493 miles are paved, and 29 miles are gravel. Of the total of 1,278 miles of local roadway - 674 miles are paved, and 604 miles are gravel.
There are a total of 155 bridges (over 20 feet in length) of which 50 are on primary roadways, and 105 bridges on our local roadways. Allegan County has the ninth most bridges amongst Michigan Counties.
There are also a total of 67 miles of seasonal roads located within the county. A portion of these roads are located within the State Game Area. They do not receive winter maintenance.

In addition to snow removal, grading of gravel roads, repair and maintenance of the county roadways, and placement and upkeep of all roadway signs, the Road Commission also has the responsibility of design, engineering, and contract administration of roadway improvements.
